DIY Motorhomes and camper vans ·

This site is all about DIY Motorhomes and Camper vans. We have produced it as a service to owners and potential owners of a DIY camper van and for those who are planning a project.

Why have you put together the site?
At Caravanwise we recently started to offer DIY camper van and motorhome insurance and have a need to understand more about this type of vehicle. There is a massive amount of information available on the Internet and it occurred to us that people planning a project or looking for information on DIY camper vans would find a site that brought this information together in one place useful.

There is also a large element of educated self interest. It is in our interests to encourage better, safer and more “professional” DIY completions. We also hope that some people who use this site might also consider obtaining a quotation for insurance from us.

We are not experts on DIY camper vans, at the start of this project we don’t intend to do a conversion ourselves. What we are good at is winkling out information from the far corners of the internet to present to you. Read this site with that in mind, anduse it as a starting point to get to sites that are written by enthusiasts and specialist companies that can help you to produce and improve your DIY motorhome.

Contributions – Articles – Photographs

We are particularly interested in self build stories and photographs.

LDV Mini Bus to Camper ·

Dave and Donna were given an LDV minibus for the sole purpose of conversion into their first motorhome. The van is actually an ex council minibus which was owned by a chap who had part converted it, it contained 5 of the original minibus seats, a small kitchen unit, a bench and a cupboard unit.

The bus was a bit of a mess when they got it (or I should say her as Donna has called her Lucy).

The first job was to strip everything out.

They had a caravan donated to them and it is now a donor itself. The plan is to salvage useful items and the scrap the old van.

Donor Caravan

This is a very interesting low budget project. Dave and Donna have spent a meagre £30 so far and that was on ply boards bought from Ebay. The couple plan to update their blog regularly as the build progresses so bookmark the site and call back again.

Dave and Donna have been hard at work and now, early May 2009, the interior is really starting to take shape.
